State Rep. Cindy Evans (7th District – North Kona, North Kohala, South Kohala) introduced House Bill 91, Relating to Amusement Concessions.
The bill authorizes the implementation of amusement concessions to provide slot machines at state airports for departing international passengers.
The revenues from the slot machines will be deposited into the airport revenue fund.
The proposed slot machines will be placed in secured areas of the airport. In order for people to use the slot machines, passengers will need to show proof of their ticket indicating they are leaving the United States.
Evans said, “This will be an opportunity to get more of the tourists’ dollars before they leave our state. Our airports need modernization and repair. It is time we think out of the box to find a new revenue source.”
